Thunderbird Setup

These instructions are based on Thunderbird 1.5RC1, which can be downloaded here, but it is recommended to use the latest version.

These instructions use the sample email address john.doe@cnz.com, where john.doe is called the username and cnz.com is called the domain. Wherever you see john.doe or cnz.com in the following instructions, substitute your username or domain. This includes server names (e.g., smtp.cnz.com should be smtp.yourdomain). For information on our private domain email hosting services, contact us at sales@cnz.com.

Download and Install Thunderbird

Click here to download and save the Thunderbird installation program to your Desktop. After the download has completed, close your web browser and then run the installation program you just downloaded. Just press Next until installation is completed.

Configure Thunderbird for Outgoing Email

Run Thunderbird. If it is the first time it has been run, it may start the Account Wizard automatically. If you see the Account Wizard, press Cancel. On the main menu, click Tools | Account Settings. You will then see this window.

Press the Add button, which will take you to this window.

Fill out the information above and then press OK. You will return to the previous window, with the new SMTP server now listed.

Configure Thunderbird for Incoming Email

Press Add Account to start the Account Wizard.

Select Email account and press Next.

Fill in your full name, with proper capitalization, and spaces, and your email address, then press Next.

Select the type of incoming email. (See our Email Help Page for information about IMAP and POP.)

After you have selected the type of mail service, press Next.

Enter your full email address for the Incoming User Name.

Enter any descriptive phrase for the Account Name. It is usually best to use the email address here. Press Next, and you will see one of the following windows, depending on which type of service you selected earlier.

Press Finish and you are done. Press the Get Mail button on the Thunderbird button bar to receive mail, or the Write button to compose mail to send.
