How to Post Web Pages with FTP using FileZilla

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a good way to download and upload web pages from your site. There are numerous FTP programs available, and any should work. We recommend FileZilla. Specific instructions for FileZilla are listed below.

Install FileZilla

FileZilla can be downloaded for free from our Downloads page. Just download the file, run it, and follow the directions to install. When installing, you will be asked to choose between XML and the registry. We recommend XML.

Configure FileZilla

Before using FileZilla to access your website, you will need to configure it with the parameters for your site. Click File | Site Manager..., then fill out the information as shown below, replacing DOMAIN.com with the domain of your website.

Then press the Advanced button and fillout the following information. C:\website\ can be any local folder you want to use to save your web site files.

Connect to Your Website

Press the Connect button to connect to your site. You will see four window panes. The top pane shows FTP information and error messages. The bottom pane shows file transfers. The left pane is your local folder, and the right pane is your file folder on the web server.

Copy Your Files

You copy files by dragging and dropping between the local folder and the server folder, just like you copy files from one local folder to another.
