Mar 2, 2004 A new virus WORM_BAGLE.J was discovered today. It has spread very rapidly, and some users received copies of it in their email before a virus scanner update was available to block it. This virus claims to be from your Internet Service Provider, but is in fact attempting to trick you into installing the software attached to the message.
The virus scanner on the mail servers now recognizes this virus, so you should not receive any more copies of it. If you have already received one, just delete it from your inbox. As long as you did not open and run the attachment, your computer has not been infected.
If you did open and run the attachment, you will need to remove the virus from your computer. If you have a virus scanner, get the latest update for it and then do a full system scan and clean. If you do not have a virus scanner installed, there is a free online scan available from Trend Micro at http://housecall.trendmicro.com.
Note: New versions of this virus, as well as the viruses Netsky and Mydoom, are appearing almost daily. During the brief period between the appearance of a new virus and the availability of an update to block it, there is a possibility of it passing through a virus scanner.
Tip: If Citadel Network, Microsoft, or any other company has something for you to download, they will email you a link to their website. Companies never email updates as attachments. If the email asks you to install an attachment, it is a trick.
